Howto Install SharePoint 2007 Enterprise on a Server 2008 server

SharePoint 2007 Enterprise

Installation

1. Navigate to the Server Manger Console
Start => Administrative Tools => Server Manager

2. Install the IIS Role from the Roles tab, make sure to include the Compatibilty Manager sub-role

3. Install the .Net 3.0 Feature from the Features tab

Make sure that your Server 2008 has Service Pack 1 installed as it is a requirement

4. Download Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 1 and Windows SharePoint Web Services 3.0

5. Download SharePoint 7 into a folder off the C: drive

6. Open a command prompt as administrator and navigate to the folder with the downloaded folders

7. Type office.. extract:path to update folder within SharePoint folder

8. Once they are both extracted go back to the GUI and navigate to the setup file in the SharePoint Folder and double clik.

9. Follow the wizzard and complete the setup.

Setup

Setting up the URL of your choice ie mindstorm.kylecorey.ca

1. From Server 2008 navigate =>Start=>Administrator Tools=>SharePoint 3.0 Central Administrator

2. Navigate to Operations=>Alternate access mapping and click the port 80 link

3. Enter the desired URL

4. Save

Setting up Sites

1. Enter your URL (use a different PC if Possible)

Documents

1. Click Site Actions=>Create Sites

2. Enter the desired fields and chose Document Workplace

3. Upload desired Documents or Create them now.

Wiki

First we need to allow anonymous connections to SharePoint

1. From Server 2008 navigate =>Start=>Administrator Tools=>SharePoint 3.0 Central Administrator=>Application Management=>Authentication providers Select Default and Click Enable Anonymous Access

Now we can create our wiki site

2.Click Site Actions=>Create Sites

3. Enter the desired fields and chose Wiki

4. Select Site Actions=>Advanced Permissions=>Actions=>Settings=>Anonymous Access=> and click Entire Web Site (no joke becuase we are currently in the wiki site)

5. You know have anonymous user for your wiki page.

Project Site

1. Click Site Actions=>Create Sites

2. Enter the desired fields and chose Team Site

3. Create your Project Mile Stones under New Event

Task List

1. Click Site Actions=>Create Sites

2. Enter the desired fields and chose Team Site

3. Select Site Action=>Projects Tasks

Summary

This was a great hands on exercise that required in part research, in part guess work and in part team work. It took me around 6 hours from Server 2008 to having all of the sites up and this documentation done. A great assignment and one that will help me in the future.
